The Flesh & the Phantom

The Flesh & the Phantom

The Flesh & the Phantom- a production of a show for the development of Reservoir Lyren, a half-empty reservoir 12 metres deep near Zurich. Switzerland’s largest reservoir was built 20 years ago to prepare for a possible future water disaster. Other participating artists include internationally renowned David Toop, Tomoko Sauvage, Jen Reimer & Max Stein. In addition to Reservoir Lyren, And includes Alter Botanischer Garten (Botanical Garden), Warmebad Kaferberg Swimming Pool and Lake shore near Cassiopeiasteg/Rote Fabrik.

The Flesh & the Phantom joined five local artists in the reservoir (Sophia Garner, Carolina Grifoll Argemi, Michael Hoi Ming Du, In cooperation with Gereon Sievi and Jie Wang, a script written by myself was rehearsed and discussed through the workshop, and combined with the sounds collected from the field recording archive and Wang Hongkai in the pre-determined and flooded areas of Meinong Reservoir in Kaohsiung, combining spoken language, behavior, singing and field recording, to form a performance of about 20 minutes.

Zurich began building its Reservoir Lyren 20 years ago. Since the 1990s, however, Hakka villagers in Meinong, in southern Taiwan, have waged a decades-long campaign against the reservoir. In both places, proposals to build reservoirs have had a huge impact on the natural and cultural landscape. Between the two very different options of building a reservoir and anti-reservoir, this project attempts to create a dialogue space, trying to expand the connection between these two living Spaces on a geographical level, while also trying to make the infrasound of past labor or passing sound audible in the empty Luren reservoir. Wang Hongkai will work with workshop participants to study acoustic materials collected from the archives and Meinong, and have a dialogue with specific fields of Luren Reservoir. These materials come from nature — seismic waves, hydrology, even the vibrations of tropical forests — but also from the cultural heritage of the inhabitants, the collective spirit, and the history of dissent. These seemingly noisy combinations will be translated and brought to life through participatory and interpretive performances. The project is also an opportunity to reflect on how water, an essential element of life, has been deformed and constructed in our imagination of sustainability, modernity, and anxiety about the future.

For me:

The combination of sound and nature has profound meaning. Especially in the current global climate change crisis, the audience is invited to think about the problem of human to nature from the perspective of sound art. Her works gave me new ideas about the combination of sound and nature, and also gave me the idea of cooperating with her on natural sound art.

First of all, natural sound refers to the sounds that come from nature, such as birdsong, wind blowing branches, rain, river turbulence and so on. These natural sounds have their unique characteristics, they can bring people a unique natural emotional experience. The characteristics of natural sound can be divided into basic characteristics and additional characteristics. Basic features include frequency, pitch, and force, while additional features include time and volume variations, as well as different types of noise that may be present. Basic features help us distinguish between different types of natural sounds, while additional features help us understand them more deeply.

In addition, nature sounds can be used to help us understand how the natural world is changing and how humans are affecting it. By learning more about the sounds of nature, we can better understand the complexity of nature, so that we can better protect the natural environment and better understand our own connection to nature. Natural sounds are important in helping us better understand ourselves and the world we live in. By studying natural sounds, we can further explore the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the nature of sound.

Bringing voice to today’s global climate change crisis, human beings are paying more attention to how to protect and preserve the natural environment and how to use natural resources effectively. Studying the nature of natural sound, and how to use it artistically, can help us think about these issues in terms of sound.

Studying the sounds of nature can also arouse people’s attention and respect for nature, so as to promote our correct understanding of nature and take effective measures in environmental protection. In addition, by making people more familiar with the nature of natural sound, it can stimulate the public’s enthusiasm for art and promote the development of society. Through the perspective of sound art, it reminds us to respect nature and cherish resources in order to protect our environment.

Cooperation

Through collaborative thinking, we can delve into the nature and characteristics of sound from multiple perspectives, helping us better understand the complexity of sound. It is even more important to think collaboratively about natural sounds in today’s climate change climate. It is possible to think collaboratively about different artistic representations of sound and explore the nuances of sound to gain a better understanding of how natural sounds affect our daily lives. At the same time, we can delve deeper into the relationship between natural sounds and today’s global climate change to better protect our environment.

In the cooperative thinking of natural sound, various methods can be adopted, such as collecting natural sound recording data, analyzing the characteristics of natural sound, exploring the nature of sound, comparing natural sound in sound art works, and proposing natural sound protection policies, etc. Only through multi-angle and multidisciplinary cooperative thinking, can we better grasp the essence of natural sound art.

Finally, I am interested in the combination of sound and nature. The combination of sound and nature can better express the relationship between human and nature and interpret the interdependence between human and nature. In addition, the natural sound itself can express more emotion, thus enhancing the emotional experience of the audience. Finally, the combination of natural sounds allows us to delve deeper into the nature of sound and lead to more meaningful thinking. Think about our environment from the perspective of sound art and strengthen our awareness of environmental protection.

Ghost me

Ghost me

For me:

Sound art can bring us a different kind of feeling. It can connect space and sound, thus shaping a unique experience. Through sound installation art, I can use sound to make connections between different spaces and also to explore new possibilities. This essay will explore how sound installation art allows us to feel the relationship between space and also explore the new possibilities that sound installation art can inspire.

Sound can profoundly affect the way people perceive space. When people hear a sound, their brains create an imagery of space, which allows them to better understand and remember the sound. I can use this sound installation art to create spatial sensations, as well as to create a specific feeling in a specific space. When people use sound installation art to access spatial sensations, they can use different sounds, and the relationships between them, to create different spatial sensations. For example, one person can use soft piano tones to create a warm, peaceful feeling; another person can use loud sounds to create a busy, noisy feeling. This approach can help one to understand the concept of space more deeply. Sound installation art can also be used to establish a relationship, and a feeling of space. I can use sound installation art to express their perception of space and how they see the connection between two different locations. For example, an artist can use rhythm, harmony, and other sound elements to create a sense of space, thus making the relationship between two locations clearer.

Sound is an art form that can create a sense of space and can give us a sense of the relationship between space and sound. Sound installation art uses sound as a medium to create an interesting and vibrant atmosphere in a space. It can transport us to a new space and allow us to experience different sensations. Sound installation art can use different musical elements, such as melodies, chords and rhythms, to express a certain feeling. It can use a variety of different sound devices such as speakers, reverbs etc. to create a specific atmosphere. Sound installation art can also use different techniques of sound expression, such as layering, harmony and variable speed, to express a specific mood. Using sound to connect spaces can create a new spatial relationship and can allow people to feel different emotions in the space of sound installation art. The space of sound installation art can help to stimulate creative thinking, thus helping people to be more inspired in their creative work. At the same time, sound installation art can also help people to build more emotional relationships and increase mutual understanding.

Sound installation art can also be used to build new relationships, these can be interactions with the audience or connections with the space. It can help people to better understand the relationship between sound and space, thus offering more possibilities to create new forms of art. However, exploring sound installation art also requires an in-depth understanding of its technical elements, including equipment, technology and programming. In addition, exploring sound installation art also requires a deeper understanding of its social and cultural contexts so that they can be utilised in practical applications.

Sound installation art can use a variety of sounds to create a complex spatial atmosphere. In sound installation art, each sound has a different function and they can work together to create an integrated sound space. Secondly, sound installation art can change and influence the relationship between space and sound by creating sound spaces. Sound installation art can use sound as a technical tool, using it to create an artistic atmosphere that makes the space more dynamic and spiritual. Finally, sound installation art can establish relationships and spaces. Through sound installation art, we can use sound to create a unique spatial relationship, making the space more expressive and meaningful. In conclusion, sound installation art is a unique art form that can be used in a variety of ways to feel the relationship between space and sound, and to use sound to build relationships

Their music has taken me into new territory, allowing me to explore new forms of rhythmic and noise-art expression. Their work has allowed me to better understand different forms of musical expression, as well as giving me the opportunity to combine different genres of music. Their work has also made me think more deeply about the possibilities of music. Through their work, I have discovered many potential creative spaces that can be used to create my own music, rather than simply imitating the work of others.

Draft (Week 17)

Sound art is a unique art form that not only expresses emotion, but also creates a unique sensory experience. In recent years, with the development of digital technology, sound art has received increasing attention and is developing rapidly. In this article I will envisage some of the future developments in noise music, sound installations and the creation of ambient sounds, as well as the future of sound art.

Noise music artists are exploring new possibilities in sound art. They are fusing sound, ambient and electronic music together to create unique sound structures by using very different techniques. They are also using technology and creative thinking to explore the potential of sound. And are experimenting with blending different musical elements together to create new musical forms with visual and emotional characteristics. I will be looking for them to use modern equipment and technology to explore the uniqueness of sound and create imaginative musical compositions. Constantly trying to explore new possibilities and challenge traditional musical forms to create sounds and music like never before.

Secondly sound installation artists have long been known for their innovative work, using technology to capture sounds that would otherwise be impossible to hear and applying them to works of art to stunning effect. Sound installation artists have also been important agents in the further development of sound art, working to develop new techniques, create new sound effects and fuse sound with other art forms. In recent years, as technology has developed, sound installation artists have also developed more innovative ways of doing things. They can use electronic devices, mixers and program control to transform sound into different forms and use modern technology to alter the rhythm and timbre of sound. They can also blend different sounds together to create unprecedented sound effects. The development of sound installation artists also allows their work to be appreciated by a wider audience. Through radio broadcasts, cinema screenings and live performances, the work of sound installation artists can be disseminated and appreciated by a wider audience. The work of sound installation artists is not only limited to the art world, but can also be used in everyday life.

Finally artists who create ambient sound are developing rapidly. These artists never stop thinking about how to use sound to create a sense of space and how to integrate sound closely with the environment. They are creating new ambient sounds, as well as incorporating sound into existing environments. Artists who create ambient sounds are learning and progressing from traditional ambient sounds. They are using modern techniques such as acoustics, electronics and digital technology to create new ambient sounds. They are also using existing ambient sounds to create more sonic spaces, and more combinations of sounds. Artists who create ambient sounds are also using modern technology to combine sound and vision. They are exploring how sound can be used to enhance the visual experience, and how visuals can be used to enhance sound. They are combining sound and vision to create more creative ambient music.

The future of sound art looks very bright. As technology advances, more and more sound artists are combining sound and technology to create a whole new form of art. Also, I am trying to explore how to use sound to convey emotion, which will open up opportunities for me to collaborate with more artists to create. I will also have more creative freedom to use new equipment and technology to create their work. This will allow them to create more complex and detailed sound structures. In addition, I will also have access to more sound artists to collaborate with, who can differentiate their creative skills. Also the development of sound art will be influenced by other art forms. For example, visual artists can combine visual elements with sound art to create stunning works.

From her earliest works to her most recent, Ewa Justka has continually pushed the boundaries of music and created unique soundscapes. Ewa Justka’s music installations are known for their unique and creative use of both traditional and unconventional instruments. She has a deep understanding of both traditional instruments and the possibilities of unorthodox ones, allowing her to create unique musical experiences. For example, she has been known to incorporate everyday objects such as kitchen utensils, paper, and even toys into her music. In doing so, she is able to generate an array of sounds that are both interesting and unfamiliar to the listener. Justka also uses a variety of acoustic and electronic instruments to create her installations. She often uses both acoustic and electronic instruments together, to create a truly unique soundscape. She has been known to combine elements from classical and modern music, as well as incorporating elements of sound design. By incorporating a wide range of instruments and sounds, she is able to create a truly innovative and captivating sound experience. Justka’s use of looping, repetitive melodies has become an important part of her music installations. Through her use of this technique, she is able to create an immersive experience that allows the audience to escape from the everyday and enter into a space of tranquility. By utilizing the same melody over and over again, Justka is able to evoke a sense of familiarity and safety, allowing the audience to find peace and solace in her music.Justka’s installations are highly attuned to the environment in which they are set. By making use of both natural and artificial sounds, she is able to create a unique sonic atmosphere that is both familiar and unexpected. By subtly manipulating the acoustics of a space, she can alter the perception of the listener, allowing them to perceive the space differently than they would in a normal context.

She is an expert in sound devices, possessing a wealth of knowledge in the area. Her ability to create and modify sound devices is particularly noteworthy, as she is highly skilled in the fabrication of them. If I am having trouble understanding how to make a sound device, I can purchase one of her creations and take it back with me to learn. This will give me a better understanding of how the device works and how I can come to improve my ability to make my own musical devices

44: A Tarot

Ruaridh Law

Over 20 years he has performed in groups, in collaborations and solo across a wide range of festivals, arts spaces, venues and clubs as performer, improviser, DJ and artist, as well as hosting radio shows and writing. His artistic focusses are on data-visualisation, human voices and their stories, unusual paradigms for performance and composing, and marrying abstraction to a beating human heart. These have manifested themselves in a tarot deck that generates music, sequential stories told over film and radio, right-wing propaganda twisted and sanitised into more worthwhile content and a walk through a forest and its imagined mythologies in the dead of night – as well as countless CD, DVD, vinyl and other music releases.

By looking to Merzbow’s music, we can explore new and innovative ways of creating sound and pushing the boundaries of music.

Writings on Music

Writings on Music 1965–2000

I chose to read this book because of the chapter ‘HEBREW CANTILLATION AS AN INFLUENCE ON COMPOSITION (1982)’, in which Steve Reich talks about the culture and structure of chant. The word anthem derived from songs with the meaning of praise. Today, chant is often used to describe religious singing or simply any type of singing that is done in a group. I find the history of chanting and its place in various religions and cultures fascinating, and I am eager to learn more about the mechanics of how chanting works. The chant is religious and mystical to me, and I hope to gain some structure and knowledge of occult music from within this chapter. Ultimately, I hope I can write music with religious overtones.

Steve Reich

Steve Reich has been called “the most original musical thinker of our time” (The New Yorker) and “among the great composers of the century” (The New York Times). Starting in the 1960s, his pieces It’s Gonna Rain, Drumming, Music for 18 Musicians, Tehillim, Different Trains, and many others helped shift the aesthetic center of musical composition worldwide away from extreme complexity and towards rethinking pulsation and tonal attraction in new ways. He continues to influence younger generations of composers and mainstream musicians and artists all over the world.

ta’amim

In technical terms, the ta’amim are classified as “ecphonetic notation” or “early neumes.” They are defined as follows: Ecphonetic notation: Originally they were simply signs added to the text in order to clarify its sentence structure, comparable to present-day punctuation marks. Later these signs adopted a musical significance. . . . Ecphonetic signs occur in Syrian, Jewish, Byzantine and Coptic manuscripts from c. 600 to 1000 and later. In Jewish chant they developed into fuller musical notation, the ta’amim which is used to the present day. (Reich, 2022)

Major and minor keys

While the melodic structure of Torah accentuation is basically in major, the Prophets are basically in minor. In the case of the Song of Songs, some of the accents are in major, others in minor, and some in the Phrygian mode. (Reich, 2022 )There is no definitive answer to this question. However, there are certain characteristics that are often associated with carols. These include a focus on the Nativity, a joyful or triumphant mood, and a simple melody that is easy to sing. There are a variety of factors that contribute to a piece of music being considered a carol. The key may have an influence, but it is not the primary reason. Other elements, such as the melody, lyrics, and overall tone of the piece, are typically more important in determining whether a piece of music is a carol.

pan-Asiatic

Dr. Avigdor Herzog, in his article on the biblical accents in the Encyclopedia Judaica, (1972) observes as follows: A comparison with practices of scriptural reading in other religious traditions such as Vedic recitation in India or Buddhist recitation in Japan and other countries reveals that none is spoken or sung but they are cantillated; that this cantillation is based upon strict conventions handed down by oral tradition (which were described explicitly only in the respective Middle Ages of each culture): and, most important, that a basic similarity of constructive principles, not of melodic content, 13 can still be recognized in all such practices throughout the Asian continent, including all Jewish traditions throughout the Diaspora. This “pan-Asiatic” style must already have been present in cantillated Bible reading in the synagogue preceding the period in which the system of written accents began to be developed. (Reich, 2022 ) I found the religious chanting both intriguing and moving. Many people singing in unison is powerful and moving. I found myself drawn to explore further the structure of the chanting, the melodies and the instruments. As I do not know much about Jewish chanting, I cannot go into the specifics of this practice. I do, however, have some knowledge of Buddhist cantillation, influenced by Asian culture. I can start by analysing Buddhist cantillation.

This is where I need to learn, the randomness that comes with the occult. The phrase “Music of Changes” has a number of different connotations. The Chinese oracle book I Ching, often known as the Book of Changes, is one of them. The alteration in Cage’s compositional vocabulary is another, more intimate allusion.
To build several charts for the music’s numerous parameters—tempo, dynamics, sounds and silences, durations, and superimpositions—Cage used I Ching chance operations. Using these charts, he produced a piece that is fully notated and uses the traditional notation system of staves and bars. In addition to using the keys, the piano can also be performed by slamming the keyboard lid, playing cymbal beaters on the strings, plucking the strings with the fingernails, and more. Additionally, pedalling is fully noted. In the proportional notation, 1 inch equals a quarter note. The 3-5-634-634-5-31/8 rhythmic structure is represented by varying tempos, including the usage of accellerandos and ritards.

Sharon Gal says that the card game Etudes is inspired by the Tarot. The number of cards in Etudes (78) is the same as the number of cards in a Tarot deck. Etudes is played in a similar way to Tarot, with players using the cards to explore their music style. Etudes is a website that contains music scores and propositions that can help stimulate a person’s imagination and creativity. It is a great way for anyone who loves music or is looking for new and interesting ways to create it. There are scores and propositions for groups and phrases, so anyone can find something that will work for them. Etudes is a great way to explore music and create something new and exciting.

This one is very similar to Etudes in that they are both card-based games with a lot of random elements. In both games, players draw cards and use them to perform actions.
